Maria-Eugenia Ricote, M.Ed., RP, CCC

Registered Psychotherapist

Hi 👋 I’m Maria.

I’m a Registered Psychotherapist and Canadian Certified Counsellor with extensive experience supporting individuals, couples, and families across clinical, community, and mental health settings. I take a warm, collaborative, and trauma-informed approach to therapy, creating a space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported as you navigate life's challenges.

How I Support Individuals

I support adults navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic stress, grief and loss, relationship and family challenges, life transitions, workplace and career concerns, communication difficulties, boundaries, and self-esteem. I also support women through the postpartum period and the emotional, relational, and identity changes that can accompany motherhood.

My approach is grounded in Narrative Therapy, with an emphasis on understanding how our experiences, relationships, and life circumstances shape the stories we tell about ourselves. I believe that the challenges you face do not define who you are. Together, we explore your strengths, values, and experiences while developing new perspectives and strategies to help you move forward. I also draw on Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)-informed practices to support your goals.

I recognize that grief and loss can take many forms, including the death of a loved one, miscarriage, the loss of a pet, separation or divorce, changes in health or relationships, and the loss of a role or the future you imagined. I offer a compassionate, non-judgmental space to process these experiences and navigate change at your own pace.

How I Support Couples

I work with couples experiencing recurring conflict, communication difficulties, emotional disconnection, changes in intimacy, life transitions, and uncertainty about the future of their relationship. My goal is to help you better understand one another, recognize patterns that may be creating distance, and build healthier ways of communicating and connecting.

My couples therapy approach integrates Narrative Therapy, Narrative Therapy-Informed Relational Interviewing (NIRI), and the Gottman Method framework. Together, we explore the experiences and dynamics shaping your relationship, strengthen communication, and reconnect with the values, hopes, and goals that matter to you as a couple.

Having lived across cultures and languages, I understand how our backgrounds, relationships, and communities influence the way we see ourselves and the world around us. I bring curiosity, cultural awareness, and a relational perspective to my work, meeting each person and couple with compassion and respect for their unique experiences.
